The Absolute Safari - Sept 1 - 4

After a great 15 days in Tanzania, it was time to hit the road and travel to the fifth country on this overland tour. Ah Malawi, the warm heart of Africa, how I waited to be greeting by it's friendly and welcoming people. We crossed the border and traveled along Lake Malawi through lush countryside until we made it Kande.
On September 1, I reached the halfway point of the overland tour. Travelling on an overland vehicle and camping almost every night has its pros and cons. Early morning wake ups to late night dinners. Setting up tents in the rain to magical sunsets and sunrises on the beach. Long stretches on the truck where we read, slept, played cards and watched the landscape pass us by. Shopping in local markets and meeting different cultures.
Lake Malawi is the ninth largest and third deepest freshwater lake in the world. Second deepest and third largest in Africa. Take a look at some additional fun facts. https://www.signatureafricansafaris.com/malawi-facts/#:~:text=Lake%20Malawi%20Holds%20Some%20Impress

We finally arrived at Kande Beach on the shores of Lake Malawi. Not feeling up to tent camping, I upgraded to an expensive beach chalet. We watched the full moon rise as we drank, played pool and talked at the bar.
Next day we partook on a village walk. We learned about primary education while touring a local school and what medical care is like in a small village, far away from hospital. Spent the afternoon watching football at the bar, swam and snorkeled in the water and played beach volleyball.
