The Absolute Safari - Sept 14 - 17

When thinking of the wonders of the world, the Great Pyramids or the Colosseum may come to mind. While these sites are absolutely amazing, the wonders that Mother Nature created are a site to behold. From mountain peaks to waterfalls, underwater marvels, and dazzling sky optics, each natural wonder highlights a different aspect of the beauty of Earth’s natural world.
Of these natural wonders, I have only visited the Grand Canyon. Let's add Victoria falls to the list.

We arrived at our campsite in Victoria Falls mid day. A local guide explained the activities and I signed up for a few but was desperate to set up my tent and get my sim card. Getting back in time for a shower, but alas everyone seemed to have disappeared. A few of us met up for dinner then back to the camp site only to realize it was next to a night club blasting music until 3am. So glad I had packed earplugs.
Up early the next morning, I headed across the street to reserve my Zipline / canopy tour, a series of 9 ziplines criss crossing Victoria falls. On the trails we watched monkeys play and watched a green mambo snake cross the trail.
I walked down the trail to Victoria Falls National Park. Mesmerized by the roar of the water and trying my hardest to avoid the spray.
I made my way back to the campsite, showered and changed for my solo dinner and sunset cruise on the Zambezi river. The food was amazing and open bar really helped set the mood. Before long the sun hit the horizon creating an array of reds, yellows and purples in the sky. We watched as a family of elephants crosses the river.
Most of us woke up early for our adventure in the devil's pool and a chance to swim in the mighty Zambezi river to the edge of the falls with only a rock ledge preventing our drop.

A speedboat ride to Livinstone Island where we had the standard safety briefing. It wasn't as dangerous as it looked as we followed the guides and ropes to the ledge. A few photos later we were back on the island for the included breakfast.
Half of the group signed up for Bungie jumping, gorge swings and other adventure sports. I was content watching others scream as the leaped from a perfectly solid bridge, a 110 meters to the waters below.
Swimming in the Zambezi River to the edge of Victoria Falls is one thing but seeing the falls from above in a helicopter ride was another. Sometimes is pays to be petite as I was strapped in the front seat next to the pilot with views all around as we circled the falls. What a great way to end out time in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
